Bamboo Village Safari Lodge sits a short distance from Mubaku/Paraa Gate at Murchison Falls National Park. Book this lodge for a stay built around Uganda’s native bamboo, with game drives, falls views, and a sunset viewing platform included in the experience.
Uganda’s Native Bamboo
Uganda holds two native bamboo species, a resource that receives less attention than the country’s forests despite its potential. Bamboo has a shallow root system that limits topsoil erosion, giving it an advantage as a building material and firewood substitute over harvested wood. Bamboo Village Safari Lodge was built to put this resource on display through its structure and landscaping.
The First of Its Kind in East Africa
Bamboo Village is the first bamboo building of its kind in East Africa. Professionals from China’s bamboo sector were brought in during construction to train local teams and advise on the build. The National Forestry Association of Uganda supported the project as part of the National Bamboo Strategy and Action Plan, which focuses on resource management tied to Uganda’s economy and environment.
The project also lines up with national planning frameworks, including Uganda Vision 2040, the Uganda Forestry Policy 2001, the National Forest Plan 2012, and the National Land Use Policy 2013, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.

The lodge has fourteen rooms. Every room includes a balcony, Wi-Fi, hot and cold water, and power. Deluxe rooms add a king bed, bamboo floors, and an intercom. With only fourteen rooms, the lodge runs as a small, homestyle property with a welcoming and helpful staff.
