Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s oldest and largest national park, covering 3,840 square kilometers. It is home to 76 mammal species and 450 bird species. Book your visit with the correct entry fees confirmed in advance to avoid delays at the gate.
Park Entry Fees
Like other parks in Uganda, Murchison Falls has entry fees that vary depending on nationality and age. These fees help the government manage and maintain the park, supporting ranger patrols, road upkeep, and conservation work across the protected area. Visitors are expected to pay these fees at the gate on arrival, so it helps to know the correct category and have payment ready before entering.

|---|---|---|
| Foreign Non-Residents | USD 45 | USD 20 (ages 5-15) |

In addition to personal entry fees, vehicles entering the park are charged separately based on type and size. Larger vehicles such as buses and lorries pay more, since they carry more passengers and put more wear on the park’s roads.

| Buses and Lorries | Up to USD 200 |
Park Penalties
Just like any well-managed place, Murchison Falls National Park has penalties for those who break park rules. These rules help protect the environment, keep wildlife safe from disturbance, and ensure a safe experience for everyone visiting the park.
- Off-track driving: A fine of USD 150 per person in the vehicle
- Overspeeding: The speed limit is 40 km/h. Drivers who exceed it are fined UGX 100,000 per incident
- Animal accidents: If a vehicle hits and kills an animal, a fine of USD 500 is charged. Animals have the right of way inside the park
- Littering: A fine of UGX 100,000 per incident. Always dispose of waste properly
- Hooting in the park: Loud noises disturb animals. Hooting is not allowed, and the fine is UGX 100,000 per incident
These penalties apply across all six gates of the park and are enforced by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers on patrol. Visitors are advised to follow park rules and guidelines closely to avoid fines and to help protect the wildlife and habitats that make Murchison Falls worth visiting.
