Detailed 4-Day Murchison Falls Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up and Transfer to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Once you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, or if you are already at your hotel, your driver-guide meets and briefs you about the trip. You then drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola District before continuing to Murchison Falls National Park.

At Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you walk with a guide to see southern white rhinos in their natural habitat, since vehicles are not allowed inside the sanctuary. A short briefing from the rangers explains why this area matters. Rhinos became extinct in Uganda in the 1980s but were reintroduced here in 2005 for protection.

Waterbucks, topis, zebras, elands, and antelopes are also possible sightings. You continue to Masindi for lunch, then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park, arriving in the evening to check in at your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

After an early breakfast, the game drive begins with your guide. Murchison Falls National Park offers a chance to see lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes, four of the Big Five animals, along with giraffes, antelopes, waterbucks, reedbucks, topis, and elands. Hyenas are often spotted in the northern part of the park.

At the end of the game drive, you visit Murchison Falls on the Victoria Nile, where the river squeezes through narrow rock walls to form a powerful waterfall. After taking in the view, you return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile brings sightings of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes along the riverbanks, with a peaceful view as the sun sets over the water. You return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Top of the Falls Tour and Cultural Visit

After breakfast, you drive to the southern part of the park to visit the top of Murchison Falls, with clear views of the water crashing through the rocks and a chance of seeing a rainbow depending on the time of day and weather.

You return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to the nearby Mubako community brings a cultural experience among grass-thatched huts and mud houses under large trees. You meet local people, watch daily life, and can buy handmade items like wooden carvings, mats, and drums, with the visit ending in a performance by traditional dancers. You return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast, you check out of your lodge and begin the journey back to Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala, with a stop for lunch along the way, arriving in the evening.

Book this 4-day Murchison Falls safari to combine rhino tracking, game drives, a Nile boat cruise, and a cultural visit to the Mubako community in one complete trip.
