How big is Murchison Falls National Park - Exact Size & Key Area Measurements

Murchison Falls National Park covers about 3,900 square kilometers, making it one of the largest national parks in Uganda.

Its large size allows the park to support many types of wildlife, including some of the rarest animals in the country.

The area includes different landscapes and vegetation such as forests, Savannah grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands. All these provide homes for many animals. The Murchison Falls themselves are about 43 meters high, and the water drops with great force into a whirlpool below known as the Devil’s Cauldron.

Murchison Falls National Park is home to more than 76 mammal species, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. Other animals include giraffes, baboons, chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, and more.

The park is also well known for bird watching. It has over 450 bird species that live in its wetlands, Budongo Forest, and riverine areas.

Murchison Falls is also known for its cultural history. The park is surrounded by communities such as the Bunyoro and Alur people.

The park’s history dates back to colonial times. The British explorer Sir Samuel Baker visited the area and wrote about it. His writings helped attract more interest from the British during that time.

Today, the government of Uganda, together with the Uganda Wildlife Authority, has taken steps to protect the park. Rules are in place to prevent people from entering or using park land illegally.

Tourists visiting Murchison Falls can enjoy many activities like boat cruises, game drives, hiking, and nature walks.

The large size of Murchison Falls National Park gives tourists a great chance to relax and enjoy nature.
