4-Day Murchison Falls Safari - Wildlife Drives & Cultural Encounters

Exploring Murchison Falls National Park on this 4-day tour gives you a chance to see wild animals up close while staying safe and comfortable in your vehicle. This trip also includes cultural experiences from the communities near the park. You will visit the Mubako people and learn about their culture, including their norms, values, and beliefs.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Once you arrive at Entebbe International Airport or if you are already at your hotel, your driver-guide will meet and brief you about the trip. You will then drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola District before continuing to Murchison Falls National Park.

At Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you will walk with a guide to see southern white rhinos in their natural habitat. Vehicles are not allowed in the sanctuary. A short briefing from the rangers will explain why this area is important. Rhinos became extinct in Uganda in the 1980s but were reintroduced here in 2005 for protection.

You may also see other animals such as waterbucks, topis, zebras, elands, and antelopes. Later, continue to Masindi for lunch, then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. You will arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

After an early breakfast, begin your game drive with the guide. Murchison Falls National Park offers a chance to see lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes—four of the Big Five animals. You may also see giraffes, antelopes, waterbucks, reedbucks, topis, and elands. Hyenas are often spotted in the northern part of the park.

At the end of the game drive, visit Murchison Falls, found on the Victoria Nile. Here, the river squeezes through narrow rock walls, creating a powerful waterfall. After enjoying the view, return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile. You may see hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes along the riverbanks. Enjoy the peaceful view as the sun sets over the water. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Top of the falls tour and cultural visit

After breakfast, drive to the southern part of the park to visit the top of Murchison Falls. This spot offers clear views of the water as it crashes through the rocks. You may see a rainbow above the falls, depending on the time of day and weather.

Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Mubako community for a cultural experience. The community has grass-thatched huts and mud houses under large trees. Meet the local people, watch them go about their daily lives, and buy handmade items like wooden carvings, mats, and drums. End the tour with a performance by traditional dancers. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the journey back to Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. Along the way, stop for lunch. You will arrive in the evening, marking the end of your 4-day Murchison Falls game and culture safari.
