This 6-day safari takes you to Murchison Falls and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks in Uganda. It includes boat cruises, game drives, chimpanzee tracking, and gorilla trekking. In Murchison Falls National Park, you will see four of the Big Five: buffalo, lion, leopard, and elephant, and visit the powerful Murchison Falls.
You will also visit Kibale National Park for chimpanzee tracking. The park is home to around 1,450 chimpanzees. Later, explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a gorilla trek and cultural experiences with local communities.
This trip starts and ends in Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel in a 4×4 safari Land Cruiser or other available vehicles such as saloon cars, vans, buses, or drones. Our experienced English-speaking driver-guides will lead the tour. The package includes meals, accommodation, park entry, and listed activities.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park and afternoon boat cruise
Your driver-guide will meet you at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe for a short briefing. After that, begin your journey to Murchison Falls National Park, about 235 km northwest. After a 4 to 5-hour drive, you will arrive at the lodge and check in.
Have lunch, then get ready for a boat cruise at around 2:00 PM along the Nile River. The cruise takes you to the base of Murchison Falls. On the way, you will see crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, and many birds. The round trip takes 2 to 3 hours. After the cruise, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive and transfer to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, check out and go for a morning game drive. You may see lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes. After the game drive, begin your journey southwest to Kibale National Park. This trip takes about 5 hours, passing through Hoima and Kyenjojo, with a lunch stop on the way.
Once in Kibale, check in at your lodge, relax, and wait for dinner. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trek and Bigodi community visit
Start the day with breakfast, then head to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. You will register and attend a briefing from a ranger about how to track chimpanzees safely.
You will then go into the forest with a ranger and a tracker to find a habituated group of chimpanzees. Once found, you will spend one hour observing them and taking photos. The full trek takes about 2 to 5 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, visit the Bigodi community. Here, you will learn how to make baskets, mats, and bags. You can buy crafts to support local women. You’ll also learn about local herbal medicine and take a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland. This is a good place to spot birds like the shoebill and animals like the sitatunga and monkeys. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi and Batwa community visit
After breakfast, check out and begin the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes about 7 to 8 hours, with a lunch stop along the way. On arrival, check in at your lodge and prepare for a cultural visit.
You will visit the Batwa community, the former forest dwellers. Enjoy their music and dance performances. Learn how they made fire, hunted, and lived in the forest. The elders will share stories about their history and traditions. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, go to the park offices by 7:00 AM for a briefing about gorilla trekking. Rangers will explain the rules and assign you to a gorilla group.
With your group and ranger, enter the forest to track the gorillas. Along the way, you may see monkeys, birds, and other wildlife. Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one hour observing and taking pictures. The trek usually takes between 2 and 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located.
After the trek, return to the starting point to receive a certificate. Your driver will take you back to the lodge to freshen up, rest, and reflect on the experience. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Return to Kampala or Entebbe and departure
After breakfast, check out and begin your journey back to Kampala. The drive takes about 10 hours. Stop for lunch in Mbarara. You will also stop at the equator in Kayabwe to take photos and buy crafts.
Once in Kampala or Entebbe, your driver will drop you off at your hotel or the airport for your flight.
