Kichumbanyobo Gate
Kichumbanyobo Gate is the main entrance to Murchison Falls National Park. It is located in the southern part of the park, near Masindi town, a common stop for visitors. From Masindi, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the gate. From Kampala or Entebbe, the distance is around 240 kilometers. The road from Masindi is a murram road but is well maintained for safe travel.
Tangi Gate
Tangi Gate is in the northern part of the park. It is mainly used by tourists heading to the northern region. The gate is along the Karuma–Pakwach road and is convenient for visitors going to the Nile Delta or Paraa area. The road to Tangi Gate is murram and well maintained, although it may be hard to drive on during the rainy season.
Wankar Gate
Wankar Gate is found in the northernmost part of the park. It is commonly used by visitors coming from West Nile and Gulu. The gate is near Pakwach town and can be reached through the Gulu–Pakwach road. The murram road to the gate is in good condition, making travel easier. This area is good for tourists who want a quiet and less crowded experience.
Mubako Gate
Mubako Gate is located in the western part of the park and is mostly used by tourists from the Albertine Rift region. It can be accessed through the Hoima–Buliisa road. Mubako Gate is about 280 kilometers from Kampala and is a way into the western side of the park, which is known for its wildlife.
Bugungu Gate
Bugungu Gate is in the southern part of the park, through the Bugungu Wildlife Reserve. It is about 135 kilometers from Masindi town and is one of the nearest gates to Murchison Falls. Tourists using this gate can see animals such as chimpanzees and monkeys in Businge Forest. They may also enjoy views of the Congo mountains, adding to their experience.
Chobe Gate
Chobe Gate is only 2 kilometers north of Karuma Bridge. It can be reached from both Karuma Falls and the Paraa region. This gate offers a quiet and scenic entry into Murchison Falls National Park.
Park Entry Fees
At any of the above gates, visitors must pay entrance fees. These can be paid directly at the gate or through the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The park entry fees are:
- USD 45 for foreign non-residents
- USD 35 for foreign residents
- UGX 25,000 for East African citizens
