In Uganda, 3 days are enough to experience Murchison Falls National Park through this flying safari. The park is the largest in Uganda, covering about 3,840 square kilometres in the northwest of the country. Each moment spent in Murchison Falls National Park offers a chance to see unique wildlife, including four of the Big Five animals.
Lions, leopards, buffaloes, and elephants can be seen during your 3-day Murchison Falls flying safari. But these are not the only highlights. Game drives also give you opportunities for birdwatching, photography, and spotting butterflies and plants.
There are many other activities to enjoy, including a boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, a drive to the top of the falls, and chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest. This tour package includes accommodation, meals, transport, guides, and all listed activities. The safari starts and ends in Entebbe.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Pakuba/Chobe Airstrip and visit the top of the falls
On the first day of your 3-day Murchison Falls flying safari, you will be met by our representative—either at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport. You will receive a short briefing about the tour before boarding a domestic flight to Pakuba or Chobe Airstrip.
The flight takes about one hour, and you will enjoy views of the land below. On arrival, your driver-guide will take you to your booked lodge where you can freshen up and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will drive to the top of Murchison Falls.
This is a powerful waterfall located on the River Nile, the longest river in the world. You will stand at a safe viewpoint to watch the water force its way through narrow rocks. You may see rainbows formed by the spray. After your visit, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive, boat cruise, and transfer to Budongo Forest Reserve
After breakfast, head to the northern part of the park for a morning game drive. You will spend 2 to 3 hours in an open-roof safari vehicle, spotting animals like lions, leopards, hyenas, warthogs, giraffes, buffaloes, and elephants.
The park is also good for bird-watching. You may see species such as the Rüppell’s vulture, Abyssinian ground hornbill, common bulbul, long-crested eagle, secretary bird, and black-headed lapwing. Take photos and return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, check out and go to Paraa for your afternoon boat cruise. You will be given a life jacket and safety instructions before boarding. The boat cruise gives you a different view of the park. Expect to see crocodiles, hippos, and buffaloes along the riverbanks.
The boat will stop at a safe distance from the base of Murchison Falls. You can take photos and observe nearby birds. After the cruise, return to the jetty and drive to Budongo Forest Reserve. On arrival, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and stay overnight.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and return flight to Entebbe
After an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and head to Kaniyo-Pabidi ecotourism site. At around 7:00 a.m., a ranger will brief you before you start chimpanzee trekking. With the help of experienced guides, you will track a group of chimpanzees.
Once found, you will spend one hour watching them in their natural environment. The entire trek usually takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on how far the chimpanzees have moved and how fast you walk.
After the trek, your driver will take you back to Pakuba Airstrip for your return flight to Entebbe. You will arrive in Entebbe in the evening, around 5:00 p.m., in time for your international departure.
This marks the end of your 3-day Murchison Falls flying safari.
